3- First Pertussis vaccine was a whole vaccine later was developed to a toxoid vaccine. Diphtheria vaccine was mix toxin and antitoxin. Tetanus vaccine was an inactive or an attenuated vaccine. Now all of them are combination vaccines (DTaP).
Facts,
1-Pertussis is a really serious infection. It's toxin subunits inhibits and evades the innate immune system. Even with aP vaccine is not enough to induce immunity.

2- Diphtheria toxin is produced when infected bacteriophage.
