Testosterone In Sports

When testosterone is released in males at puberty, the bone density enlarges, muscles growth quickens, and testicular activity goes up. However, females in puberty don’t release an-ywhere as close to the amount of testosterone as males. With that testosterone the body starts to stretch itself. This is where boys start to be averagely taller than females. This part of puberty will affect that athlete’s height and weight for the rest of their lives. If a male volleyball player that is six foot eight inches tall, decides to have a sex change. That transgender woman regard-less of the therapy that is given already has gain an advantage over the female athletes (Yilmaz). The results weren't a surprise, Males produce four times the testosterone at a pubescence age (Yilmaz). This has a direct correlation with bone density as well. Professor D. Yilmaz compared their BMD, which means their bone density (Yilmaz). Female bone density was lower in all test subjects compared to the male subjects. Having larger bone density can help in all types of sports, especially in weight baring sports (Yilmaz). The experiment found that out of 160 male and female athletes in all different NCAA sports, males had a larger bone density compared to all of the female athletes. This research helps show that male athletes have an ad-vantage over female athletes. Therefore, if transgender women would have denser bones than their competition, giving them the ability to hold higher average of muscle compared to female athletes (Bruininks). “We found male athletes exhibited greater bone structure and strength measures of the tibia compared to their female athlete counterparts.
