Testing Anxiety Research Summary

In order to further explore another potential source of testing anxiety, an experiment conducted by Whitaker Sena, Lowe and Lee (2007) focused on measuring this phenomenon in students with learning disabilities. Similarly to the aforementioned experiments, the present study asserts that testing anxiety is rooted in the negative emotions about inadequacy. Furthermore, students who experience testing anxiety tend to experience difficulties learning and retaining information presented in a classroom environment. To further compound this issue, students with learning disabilities have been identified as individuals who experience a substantial amount of difficulties during assessments, even more so than their peers. For this experiment, researchers utilized the Test Anxiety Inventory for Children and Adolescents to measure levels of anxiousness. For this portion of the assessment, a 45-item questionnaire was utilized in order to explore the type of testing anxiety experienced within children. To measure their anxiety levels of intelligence, researchers utilized the Test Anxiety Inventory for Children and Adolescents that examines the hyper arousal, embarrassment, worry and cognitive obstruction/inattention. Participants for this experiment were given an arithmetic examination while calm or obnoxious music was playing in the background. Furthermore, students were comprised of two additionally categories of being informed that their examination would either be graded or ungraded. The blood pressure of the students was taken prior to and after the examination. Additionally, in order to measure anxiousness, the State-Trait Anxiety inventory was utilized for this experiment.
