Testaments Betrayed Milan Kundera

In Testaments Betrayed Milan Kundera describes a situation during the Prague Spring where someone’s private life is intermixed with their public life. This person was Jan Prochazka, who was a major figure during the Prague Spring. Prochazka commonly had conversations with a opposition figure, Professor Vaclav Cemy and their conversations were recorded and broadcasted throughout several radio stations. Milan Kundera depicts this as a horrid act and explains how people, no matter who they are, act differently in private than in public. He also states, “…private and public are two essential different worlds and the respect for that difference is the indispensable condition…for a man to live free,” which portrays Kundera’s beliefs on how the two “worlds” should never collide. Otherwise, it can cause horrid events to occur. I agree with the thoughts Kundera puts forth. You’re public and private lives should never mix unless you don’t mind having them intertwine. The Kardashians are best known for showing their private lives on TV for everyone to watch and laugh at. Their whole public life is merely built off of their private one. Everyone knows what happens in the Kardashian’s private life and can discuss it with their friends the next day. This situation is an exception to the concept being discussed in this essay because it was the Kardashian’s choice whether they wanted their private and public life to mix. They chose yes and they luckily ended up becoming millionaires for broadcasting their private life on TV, but also modelling and acting.
