Methods: After being assigned a line of plots , locate the first plot by using a map and a compass . Hang a piece of flagging with your name, the line number and the plot number at your first plot. Use a four foot radius and record the dominate and co-dominate species in the area. Record which direction water will flow if it was raining. Use a densitometer to test the density of the soil. Next, dig a 18 inch hole to collect the soil sample. Once the hole is dug, put the metal cylinder into the hole and pound it in with a hammer. If there are more than one horizon collect two soil samples from the same hole, one in each horizon. Put the soil collected into a plastic bag and use a sharpie to label it. Fill the hole in. the next plot in the line is a 1/2chain due east. Use a compass to shoot the bearing and a tape measure to measure the 33 feet. At the second plot, repeat the process of the first plot and record the data. Repeat the steps until you reach a plot where
