The radical and dramatic changes in the world of business in the past decade have faced exceptional challenges. Business expansion is considered as the best strategy to become successful in a business. Each organization is unique in its industry and the main advantage of expanding business of any organization is that it increases employment opportunities. In the article "Tesla leases two big Fremont office buildings where 1000 could work", the author, George Avalos, effectively used logos, ethos and pathos to convince the audience as mode of persuasion [3]. This article is all about business expansion of Tesla, where there could hardly be scope of emotions. But still the author managed to satisfy pathos in his article to certain level by bringing in his thoughts about increase in number of jobs due to Tesla business expansion, which makes the readers happy. This is a sensitive topic where the readers could have hopes on the employment opportunities that are being offered. This is totally associated with the emotions of the audience. Pathos is generally developed by using meaningful language, emotional tone, emotion evoking examples, stories of emotional events, and implied meanings [3] where George used meaningful language, implied meanings and stories of emotional events [1]. From this we can say that the author made partial use of pathos. A common use of pathos is to draw pity from an audience where another use of pathos would be to inspire anger from an audience, perhaps to prompt action. George started his article by saying ‘In a big expansion that potentially could bring 1,000 or more workers into Fremont’, to make the audience feel what he wanted them to feel. This is an emotional appeal to the readers which makes them happy or joy, which is a kind of emotion. George made his arguments in such a way that the audience are convinced. We can also say that the author made appeal to a surprise emotion too because the employment …show more content…
In this article, George made reasonable points and maintained the flow which satisfied the rhetorical triangle. He designed his article in a very simple and neat manner which made common audience understand it easily.
