Terry Paltridge's Speech

Decent Essays
I Terry Paltridge stand here in front of the Australian public to tell you that we are the solution to the issue. We as a growing nation have to make a change, we can save countless number of lives.

We have to make a change for the better of Australia.
We have to make a change for the future generations to come.

Gun laws are one of the things that won’t get everyone satisfied. Everyone has a different opinion due to either political views or past experience. Some may prefer the idea of gun control or banning guns is the only to stop deaths. According to the National Survey of Law Enforcement, “many proposed gun control measures – including bans on assault weapon – will be ineffective at reducing violent crime and that legal gun ownership by private citizens would prove a better safeguard.” Although having a strict gun control may have it’s benefits when reducing death, we must use gun control moderately to decrease the amount of illegal activity surrounding guns.…

I do agree that there is a need for better gun control laws, but people need to know the real statistics, not something that is made up just so you can push your agenda. Gun controlled has become largely publicized in the past few years. Gun control is now becoming more highlighted because of the major recent shootings. Some of these shootings include Pulse Night Club, San Bernardino, Sandy Hook Elementary, etc. The media reports untrue statistics such as: that more than a thousand children die yearly in gun accidents, there is proof that longer waiting periods for a gun license lowers crime, crime will go drop if more people are armed,…

School Shootings Are Not Enough for Stronger Gun Control Laws The Jonna Semeiks article “We the People Confront Sandy Hook” discuses many different factors that contribute towards explaining why school shootings and gun violence are inadequate to inspire stronger gun control laws. The deaths of children are not enough to offset the strong ties that American society has towards guns as a symbol of freedom, which causes people to respond with internal defense mechanisms that numb the pain of these tragic events instead of feeling a need to take corrective action. Semeiks presents a valid point that gun control reforms are needed; however, in order for that to happen anytime soon, the American people will need to largely shift their attitude on this topic. The author provides several examples successfully supporting that main idea.…

One of the top three things that liberals and conservatives tend to fight about 24/7 is gun control. Liberals tend to believe that with stricter gun control laws there will be a decrease in gun violence. While conservatives tend to think that with stricter gun control laws won 't just breach the second amendment but it will also cause more gun related violence. In the online article “OUR OPINION: Gun Owners ' Support Needed to Stop Mass Killings” by The Editorial Board written for CentralMain.com, The Editorial Board states how conservatives are the ones that hold the key in order to make any changes with the gun control laws, they also go on about how Americans should stop throwing the same old arguments at each other and actually do something…

Omar Mateen, Dylann Roof, John Houser, Syed Rizwan Farook, Christopher Harper-Mercer and Aaron Alexis are just a few names of mass murderers who obtained guns legally in the United States. The Virginia Tech massacre sparked the idea of gun control. It has been a controversial issue in American politics ever since, yet Congress refuses to strengthen restrictive gun control laws. Sandy Hook, the Orlando shooting, you name it , these shootings are tragic but they shouldn't be an excuse to take away our guns. If they weren't a problem in the past, there has to be an easy solution to why all of the sudden these shooting call for strict gun laws. While I tout in this essay about how I feel about this, the truth is my opinion won't matter and for the most part, irrelevant to others and most importantly, lawmakers. For everyone, our voice is so little that nowadays they produce no change no matter how hard we try. You now have to ask yourself, "What happened?…

In recent years, a lot of debate had been going on about the laws pertaining to firearms. Unfortunately, with all of the mass shootings and killings being reported by the media, guns are given a bad reputation. Sadly, many people believe that they should be illegal because they are dangerous and can kill people, but what these people don’t realize is making them illegal will do a lot more harm than good. Guns have created a balance in society and if we were to take them away it could cause a lot of chaos which would result in more crime and more casualties. People deserve the right to bear arms because with proper training one could possibly save his/her life and also protect others.…
