Terry Fox: Marathon Of Hope

In 1980, a young one-legged man ran a distance of 5,373 kilometers in 143 days, in hopes to find a cure for cancer, costing him his life. This great Canadian hero was named Terry Fox, born on July 28, 1958. He created the Marathon of Hope to raise money and to help find a cure for cancer; therefore, our greatest Canadian individual was Terry Fox. Terry Fox can be considered a courageous man, because he ran the Marathon of Hope while he had an amputated leg. Terry was compassionate because his run was devoted to raising money for all cancer victims, most of all he is dedicated as can be seen through the distance he ran.

His comparison is also seen through one of his reasons for starting the Marathon of Hope, to help all cancer victims fight cancer. This demonstrates that he is willing to help out others at the cost of his pains and overall, his life. Terry Fox also raised money for the Marathon of Hope without taking any of the money for himself, but ensuring that all the money goes to the cause of researching cancer. Compassion is seen as he does not ensure the money goes toward saving his own life, but to the lives to the others that may need it more. Furthermore, Terry Fox ran against the weather including rain, mist, winds, and fog. Now that wouldn’t seem difficult, but Terry Fox has a different body condition than others, like his leg would keep on bleeding during his run, forcing him to postpone his run until his leg was cleaned up.
