Differences Between Domestic And International Terrorism

Over a span of forty years there were nearly 40,000 terrorist related activities all over the world. Almost 8% of these attacks were within or directed against the United States, while the other 92% was directed at other nations. 8% does not seem like a huge number when one thinks about how many countries there are in the world, however 8% is a huge number when one puts it into the perspective that terrorist attacks can occur in a country or they can be against a country. Some nations deal with terrorist activities on a weekly basis, but those terrorist attacks are not always against the nation as a whole. A majority of the terrorist attacks against the United States occurred internationally, or in other words out of 471 terrorist attacks against the United States 380 of them occurred somewhere besides the United States. This means that between 2001 and 2009 there was 91 homegrown terrorist attacks. Out of these attacks nearly 69% were bombings; and regardless of the attacks were domestic or international a large percentage of these attacks were against businesses. …show more content…
International terrorist groups also seem to target diplomatic offices, whereas domestic terrorist organizations target private citizens and property. Another difference between domestic and international terrorists is the way in which they attack the United States, as said previously international terrorists are known to use bombings against us, whereas domestic terrorists use arson. I suppose domestic terrorist target private citizens, property, and United States businesses’ because they believe that justice will be rewarded by attacking or killing; subsequently this follows the reasons of international terrorists. Justice drives terrorists because they are fighting for something they believe in or even something they are against because in their minds they have nothing to

In Harm de Blig’s book “Why Geography Matters More Than Ever,” he talks about how geography is more than discovery. It has a technical side when it comes to dealing with the maps and making them. It also studies humans, how they live, and their customs, not just the land they live on. In relation to the land humans live on, people live in places that can be dangerous with many different things such as, earthquakes, tornadoes, tsunamis, even animals, yet we learn to adapt to the places we live. He also goes on to say that the American population is the geographically most illiterate society of consequence on the planet.…

There are a lot of terrorist attacks you don’t read about in the paper, the reason for that is because they were either stopped or contained to protect the American people, for example in September 2009, federal agents arrested Naji-bullah Zazi and four others for purchasing chemical explosive materials to try and bomb the New York subway system (Fox 19 Now). One of the most recent and most tragic events was the Boston Bombing back in April 2013. The Patriot Act was not able to prevent the attack to happen, but it allowed the NSA to identify the Tsarnaev brothers and uncovered a follow up attack that was going to happen in Fall 2013 by going through cell phone pictures and email records. Fortunately, with the fatality of one brother and the arrest of the other one they were unable to go on with their plans (History.com Staff). Along with Al-Qaeda, there are many other terrorist groups around the world that would want to harm America, one of the most dangerous is ISIS.…

The United States approach to foreign terrorist attacks have been more so controversial and unplanned. I believe prior to the September 11, 2001 attacks America has been well aware of terroristic motives and underestimated their threats. The United States Intelligence departments believe the main goal of terrorist is to kill Americans in an abundance when their least expect (when their guard is down, For instance, Vietnam). I believe America has went to war with countries (Iraq, Iran and Afghanistan ) to conceal their main motives to combat the Islamic religion or to obtain useful resources (Oil). The United States of America captured Usama Bin Ladin who obtained his education in America and who believed every Muslim should kill an abundance…

Terrorists claimed that America was the source of all evil and that we needed to be stopped. They would cause constant attacks on our soil with suicide bombing and mass shootings. Terrorism back in my day was a very big issue for the world, we could never feel safe with the ever looming threat of a radical Islamic terrorist threatening to bomb a city. They were set on the idea of America being the worst of the worst making us their primary target with anyone who oppose them or align with us being a target as well. We tried to stomp them out but their scarcity made it especially…

In different countries they also have a form of domestic terrorism of what we can also refer as homegrown terrorism.
