Not all Muslims are linked with violent ideologies and in fact, many preach the Islamic religion as a faith of nonviolence. To many Islamic people, ISIS and other extremists are seen as “crime against humanity,” and many Muslims apologize and condemn for their inhumane and wrongful actions. Even people of the Islamic religion are negatively impacted by the Islamic extremism group as well. A vast majority of Muslims are moderate people who suffer from the fear of terrorism just like any other individual would. For example, Islamic extremists target and kill some of the innocent Muslim population. These Islamist terrorists do not just target the West and other denominations, but they target anyone who disagrees with their extremist beliefs, which includes the vast majority of Muslims. It stated that, “This [terrorism] is not Islam any more than the Ku Klux Klan is Christianity.” I thought this was a good and, in some cases, a relatable comparison because not all people who are Christian are part of the Ku Klux Klan and not all Muslims who are part of the Islamic religion are terrorists. Western media’s depiction of Islamic terrorism makes all Muslims appear as villains and fanatics. The audience starts believing that all Muslims are threatening and an enemy of the West, this results in generalizations and discriminatory behaviour against those Muslims who are harmless. The media is biased while showing Islamic terrorism and fundamentalist Christian actions. They give more coverage and emphasis when showing terror attacks committed by a non-white Muslim and less coverage to attacks committed by white Christians. When the audience is more exposed to the news of the attacks made by Muslims, they start believing that Muslims are the problem and label all Muslims as terrorists rather than thinking that it is the person who is the problem, not the religious or cultural background of that person.…

Since 9/11, the United States has created measures to protect the country from what was not prevented on that historical day. These measures consist of “mass arrests, secret and indefinite detentions, prolonged detention of ‘material witnesses,’ closed hearings and use of secret evidence, government eavesdropping on attorney-client conversations, FBI home and work visits, wiretapping, seizures of property, removals of aliens with technical visa violations, and mandatory special registration (215).” Most of these measures have targeted Arabs and Muslims living in the United States.
