Imagine your normal everyday life, with your family and friends in a quite suburban town in the U.S. You go around your day-to-day mundane tasks with familiarity that feels safe and prosperous. You have the feeling of achievement as you look around your well house, which is well furnished and in a good neighborhood. Your wife and children are sitting on the porch, and you feel satisfied thinking your children will be able to go to college and you and your wife will be able to retire comfortably on your pension fund and life savings. You have a close circle of friends who have come to substitute the extended family that you left behind when you first came to the U.S, without money or a job, but with a belief in the American dream. You feel content, happy.
Now imagine the next day, there is a threat of all of this being ripped away from you. Donald Trump has passed the

Muslims within the countries banned have been targeted by terrorism more than the American population has, and as such has lost much more: their families, loved ones, lives, homes and prospects. Therefore, a ban on the victims of terrorism seems to be too extreme. Moreover, such a ban will not serve its purpose and may in fact increase hostilities between Muslims and the U.S; the terrorists will have an argument against the U.S to turn people against them, as the U.S is the nation who banned them and restricted their return to their lives. In addition, is does not seem fair to generalize the whole of the Muslim populations of the countries banned based on the extremely small minority that follows and supports terrorist activities. Trump has issued new executive orders that have shocked not only Americans, but also people from all over the world. Basically what these orders are to do is that they are intended to ban Muslims from seven countries from entering the United States. Even those who have been living in America for quite a while are to be deported to their countries. What is more devastating is that students who had their student visas from their home countries to come study in the USA are no more welcomed here and have to face these new abnormal orders. I think the new executive order is definitely intended to discriminate against Muslims because there were no terrorist attacks performed from people who are from these 7 countries in the U.S.…

Julie Otsuka’s novel Buddha in the Attic reminds me of the famous metaphor ‘The grass is greener on the other side”. ‘The other side’ is the right side of the fence that seems full of opportunities and possibilities to the folks standing on the left side of the fence. The story is about similar events that took place in the 1920’s in the United States of America which does a masterful job in relating this daring topic. As human beings, we all want to have better lives and living conditions, for ourselves as well as for our children. This is the main reason we leave our homes and families and migrate to countries solely based on what we have heard, read and seen in pictures and movies.…

Currently, I work as a researcher and policy planner for Presidential candidate, Bernie Sanders. My job is informing him on the brief historical chronology leading to present day extremism, providing him with clear advice for how to differentiate between groups and their perspectives, supply him with points that he can use in a debate to refute some of the fear and hate-mongering statements made by others, as well as give him effective suggestions for how to confront Global Jihadism in ways including and beyond military. As his secondhand, I would allow Bernie to introduce the topic as such: “My fellow Americans -- tonight, I want to speak to you about what the United States will do with our friends and allies to degrade and combat the current…
