Terrorism In New York City

One issue I strongly care about is terrorism. Terrorism prevents people from living their everyday lives through instilling fear. Living in New York City where terrorism is unfortunately practiced more frequently, I have experienced its effects. There have been some weeks where I am unable to sleep due to the restless thoughts about potential episodes. Although I was an infant when the tragedy of 9/11 occurred, I know many people who were affected by it and lost loved ones. With the most recent Chelsea bombing while attending school in the Chelsea area, I have to be extra vigilant when traveling to school not only to protect myself, but the other people around me. I care so much about preventing and stopping acts of terrorism because nobody should be afraid to live their lives due to the fear that they are going to be killed or terrorized for being who they are. New York City is one of the greatest cities in the world and to see a place and its inhabitants destroyed by malicious and ignorant acts of others infuriates me. Although major cities are more likely to draw acts of terror, …show more content…
I attempt to set examples for other New Yorkers when traveling. If I ever see anything suspicious I am always sure to report it to a police officer as well as move to a different location such as a different car on the subway. When traveling, I also choose not to use any technology because it serves as a distraction therefore causing myself to be more unaware of my surroundings and therefore more likely in the face of harm. I also try to tell others if I feel that they may be in any kind of danger even if it is minimal. I would always rather be safe than sorry. That doesn’t mean having the mindset that every backpack has a bomb stored inside of it, but it means being aware of your surroundings and making sure to follow your intuition when it comes to your

In October 2001, just one month after the tragic September 11 attacks on the twin towers, Prime Minister Jean Chrétien pledged to support the United States. It was announced that Canada would join a UN-approved NATO coalition attack in Afghanistan (in order to support the United States). The purpose of this was to find and neutralize al-Qaeda which was a global militant Islamist organization. In addition, the main goal was to track and hunt down Osama Bin Laden, the leader of al-Qaeda, since the Taliban government refused to reveal Bin Laden’s hiding place. The province that Canada was responsible for was Kandahar, which was presumably the most dangerous province in Afghanistan.…

Before the terrorists attacks on September 11, 2001, the United States was at war with Iraq and had a presence in Saudi Arabia which lead to conflict to terrorist groups and terrorists attacks within the US, but no action was taken that would change American politics, society, or foreign policy. After the attacks, everything changed. The US became much strict in its search for and elimination of terrorism, both within the country and around the world. The events also brought the country together, but at the same time separated the country into parties and groups. We also wanted to spread democracy to prevent the spread and start of terrorism.…

Events such as these have begun the War on Terrorism and against terrorist groups. The authors of the airplane bombings were known to be Muslim, this created a sense of Islamophobia or simply known as a fear of Muslims in the United States ("Islamophobia").While it is understandable to have fear of another bombing or terrorist attack after those events, this irrational fear of Muslims has since then made them the targets and victims of racial profiling and discrimination in their everyday lives(Epstein) . National security is vital to protecting the lives of millions but finding a way to protect so many people may be a challenge. Many people considered racial profiling vital to protecting our country from another terrorist attack ("Donald Trump Defends Racial Profiling in Wake of Bombings").…

The United States approach to foreign terrorist attacks have been more so controversial and unplanned. I believe prior to the September 11, 2001 attacks America has been well aware of terroristic motives and underestimated their threats. The United States Intelligence departments believe the main goal of terrorist is to kill Americans in an abundance when their least expect (when their guard is down, For instance, Vietnam). I believe America has went to war with countries (Iraq, Iran and Afghanistan ) to conceal their main motives to combat the Islamic religion or to obtain useful resources (Oil). The United States of America captured Usama Bin Ladin who obtained his education in America and who believed every Muslim should kill an abundance…

What this political cartoon reveals to me is that terrorism is not going away anytime soon. For every terrorist leader that is apprehended, there is another one waiting to take his place. Our reality is that the United States must continually be on guard by monitoring potential terrorists by tracking where they travel to and who they associate with. Unfortunately, we need to do this by staying within the premises of the law. The parody in the cartoon imitates the energizer bunny that it keeps going and going and the battery rolling behind it is the next terrorist that will fuel more attacks.…

According to Lewis, “Domestic Terrorism involves groups or individuals who operate without foreign direction entirely within the United States and target elements of U.S. government and citizen” (p. 209). In different countries they also have a form of domestic terrorism of what we can also refer as homegrown terrorism. What are the possible ties that the domestic terrorism in the United States and abroad are relatively close? It seems like they share the goal of inflicting fear and causing destruction on the citizens of their country, but how are they alike when it comes to their political views, religion, education, economic background and ethical background. We are going to take a deeper look on what are the potentially comparable aspects…

War is not a wonderful thing, yet the United States feels the need to enter every possible war across the sea until it is “resolved”. In reality, fighting in wars across seas won’t solve anything because if we can’t solve the internal wars going on in our country, why should we help others with theirs. The U.S. should not be interfering with other countries’ affairs until we fix our own problems such as domestic terrorism. Domestic terrorism can lead to destruction a country and influence more violence.…

United States consists of incidents confirmed or suspected to be American terrorist acts. These assaults are viewed as local since they were completed by United States residents. Household terrorism in the United States has changed many times throughout the years; likewise, it can be contended that demonstrations of local terrorism have been happening subsequent to much sooner than any lawful definition was put forward. The New York Times finishes an update on Saturday’s bombing in New York by quoting an unnamed official, “We don’t understand the target or the significance of it,” the police official said. “It’s by a pile of Dumpsters on a random sidewalk.” It’s a valid question - why here? So often we’ve seen terrorist attacks (and this is a terrorist attack) take on symbolic importance: two of the largest buildings in New York, a concert, a football game, an airport.…

Considering terrorist attacks are few and far between, even as terrible as they are, should not mean we have to give up liberties. Other countries are bombed and people are killed every day. All in all, I think we have it pretty good in America. No matter what we put in place to fight terror they are always going to find ways through the cracks. Most of the time when terrorist attacks are attempted they are caught.…

I believe that the concern, no matter what the case, should be a concern for the entirety of the government; especially in the aspect of terrorism because that is a world problem, not just the ones effected by it. The statement mentioned above by Schneider is a very bold statement. I do agree that small issues can be resolved by the states themselves, but bigger issues should not be quarantined to the area effected. Any concern or problem big enough to be a national issue, should be a national issue no matter what.…
