Terrorism Has Negatively Affected The Globe Throughout History

According to Schmalleger (2015), terrorism can be defined as “a violent act or an act dangerous to human life, in violation of the criminal laws of the United States or of any state, which is committed to intimidate or coerce a government, the civilian population, or any segment thereof, in furtherance of political or social objectives” (p. 582). Terrorism has negatively affected the globe throughout history to include our very own nation. The United States of America has tragically witnessed terroristic acts and we have even been on the devastating end of some of these horrible nightmares; yet I believe a portion of the American population take terrorism for face value. In order for us to understand the concept of terrorism, we need to take an in depth look at the history and organizations of terrorism that have affected the United States of America. Such organizations include the Ku Klux Klan (KKK), Al-Qaeda, and recently the Islamic State of Iraq and Levant (ISIL).
Terrorism has been used by multiple ideologically-motivated movements in the history of our nation. From the Ku Klux Klan forming in 1865 (Andryszewski, 2002), all the way to the formation of ISIL in the early 21st century, the United States has seen its fair share of horrible disasters conducted by multiple terrorist organizations.
