Terrorism: A Parody In The United States

Decent Essays
What this political cartoon reveals to me is that terrorism is not going away anytime soon. For every terrorist leader that is apprehended, there is another one waiting to take his place. Our reality is that the United States must continually be on guard by monitoring potential terrorists by tracking where they travel to and who they associate with. Unfortunately, we need to do this by staying within the premises of the law. The parody in the cartoon imitates the energizer bunny that it keeps going and going and the battery rolling behind it is the next terrorist that will fuel more attacks. For numerous reasons, there are many terrorists that want to cause significant harm to America.

Since 9/11 attacks on the World Trade Center by Al Qaeda, terrorism has become a global threat and an important phenomenon both to the international community and in the United States. Many have argued that terrorism isn’t a new phenomenon because it started way beyond 9/11, and I agree, but the growing number of terror attacks shows that it is a major global security threat. In addition, the global death tolls caused by terror attacks have also increased. According to an NBC News article containing some released information from the U.S. State Department (DOS), the DOS found that between 2013 and 2014, terror attacks increase by 35% and total fatalities went up by 81%. Such an increase might have been caused by the growing number of weak…

The American people have a very clear idea of what terrorism looks like. What we also have a clear idea of is what reactions to terrorism typically look like. Terrorism is not a new phenomenon, and it has repeatedly led to the same end: politicians and policy makers using the public’s fear for its safety to push their own agendas. The recent terror attacks in Paris provide the American people with a chance to spark a new conversation about terrorism, and hopeful presidential candidates with an opportunity to twist this conversation to their benefit. It is becoming clear that reactions to terrorism are becoming a partisan issue, and one that politicians are using to their advantage.…

One issue I strongly care about is terrorism. Terrorism prevents people from living their everyday lives through instilling fear. Living in New York City where terrorism is unfortunately practiced more frequently, I have experienced its effects. Although I was an infant when the tragedy of 9/11 occurred, I know many people who were affected by it and lost loved ones.…
