The 9/11 attacks (during 11 September 2001) by Al Qaeda, in the United States, clearly showed the new challenge of global terrorism in the 21st century. So they set their target/aimed on symbolic targets, which was the Twin Towers in New York City, and the Pentagon in Virginia.
