There are major differences between the Terrestrial planets, the Jovian planets, and the Dwarf planets. Terrestrial planets are planets made of rocks, so logically they have a hard surface. Terrestrial planets also have a molten core, usually few moons, and characteristics such as valleys, volcanoes and craters. Examples are Mercury, Venus, Earth, and Mars. Jovian Planets are large planets composed mostly of gases, such as hydrogen and helium, with a small rocky core. Jovian planets have no solid surface and have large rings around them. Jovian planets usually have dozens of moons orbiting them, as opposed to terrestrial planets which have few moons.
