1. In order to better manage our Terraqua Column, my group would need to change our elodea plant weekly so the plant doesn’t pollute the water. The elodea plant starts to turn yellow around a week, and after a little bit more than two weeks the elodea plant dies. On day 7 (October 22) our plant is starting to turn yellow, and on day 19 (November 9) the plant dies. The reason why we would change the elodea plant every week is so the plant doesn’t pollute the water and cause our fish to die.
2. Cultural eutrophication was caused due to the addition of fertilizer into our soil, which cause our plant to die. Within the past 50 years, cultural eutrophication negatively affected different bodies of water around the world. One of the example is the Pollution of Lake Karachay. The Russian government built a nuclear factory near the shore of the lake named “MAYAK”. The factory dumped its waste into the lake, soon destroying the lake. Later on the river Techa River which is a nearby river was causing people to feel ill due to the radiation, this all happened because of the cultural eutrophication of Lake Karachay.

The properties of soil greatly affect the quality of the water in the aquatic ecosystems. Sand would not be the type of soil you would want to use for plants due to that sand is loose, which means water and mineral nutrients can pass through sand with ease. Which also means that sand cannot hold a large amount of minerals for plants. If there was an aquifer below a level of sand, the sane would hold most of the nutrients and water that passes through the sand. Clay is also another type of soil, unlike sand clay can hold water and nutrients very well. Though clay can also hold toxins in the soil, this means that the clay can prevent the entrance of chemicals that could possibly kill the plants. Silt is made when you mixed clay and sand together, this means that it has the properties of both sand and clay which makes it ideal to use it in a
