1. I would consider TerraCycle plant food to be a shopping consumer product because buyer typically weighs the attributes of the product such as quality, price, and material used when purchasing said product. Per the case study, TerraCycle products are marketed as "the ultimate organic product to come to market." TerraCycle provides the consumer with more information by explaining why they are the “the anti-Miracle-Gro.” Although shopping product like TerraCycle is sold in fewer locations because of the specialized knowledge required to sell lawn care products. For example, you can sell this type of product in a convenience store or someplace similar. Also, a store that sells these kinds of products can help consumers compare the benefits of each product. (Claessens, 2015)
2. www.terracycle.net through its online retailer Dwell Smart sells products such as bags, cleaning solutions, fertilizers and gardening products. TerraCycle has many product lines available for sale such as products for office, outdoors, and school. So, I would consider TerraCyle's product width to be 3 or more because of the various product lines available for sale. In doing so, TerraCycle can give the consumer the impression that their product is on par with that of a multi-billion-dollar company. However, I believe that the customer confusion angle is overblown because TerraCycle is a shopping product meaning the consumer will carefully read the labels on the products. www.scotts.com product line has the name "Scotts" prominently marked on every product.
