There are already natural THC like chemicals in your brain, and the “high” you get from smoking marijuana is due to a certain part in your brain with the most of these THC like chemicals getting overstimulated. The short term effects you feel include, altered senses, slowed sense of time, changed mood, impaired body movement, challenged problem solving, and impaired memory. When you take an edible the effects are noticeably different, it takes 30 minutes to an hour for the THC to take effect (instead of the almost immediate feeling when smoked), and it affects your body a lot more than your brain. Long term effects of marijuana primarily occur in your brain, but they do also occur physically. Long term marijuana use in adolescents can cause permanent cognitive impairment, which will impact your judgement and ability to learn.
