Teotihucan has never truly been lost. It was known to the aztecs who originated after the fall of the city. There is evidence that they used the site to perform rituals. Teotihuacan is also found on some sixtieth contrary colonial maps made by Spanish conquistadors. (Pasztory. 1997)
Teotihucan to day is a preserved and maintained tourist attraction. An urban city has since been build around it. In 2004 there were protests in response to the building of a Walmart within a very close proximity to the ancient City (Sempowski, 2008).
