Though Most famous for his Everest expedition he has also done a lot of other expeditions. On the 30th of January 1948 Edmund along with Harry Ayres, Mick Sullivan, and Ruth Adams climbed up the south ridge of Mount Cook, New Zealand's highest peak. In 1951 The British led an unsuccessful expedition to Everest. Before Edmund Hillary’s 1953 expedition Nepal only let one expedition a year in 1952 The Swiss had a go but failed. In 1953 the first successful expedition took place lead by John Hunt. After the team carved a route through the Khumbu Icefall and the South Col, the first duo assigned by Hunt had to turn back due to exhaustion. So Hillary and his Sherpa guide, Tenzing Norgay, who carried extra oxygen, were the first to summit the 29,029-foot
