The Idea Of Containment During The Cold War

The Cold War was a period of tension between the United States , Soviet Union and the Axis powers; Germany, Italy and Japan after World War 11. There was tension because the United States and Soviet Union did not want Communism and the Axis powers did. During this time period many people were in fear of the Red Scare, or Communism. Schools taught students to safely hide if there is a bomb or even a threat of one. People accused many others for being members of the Communist belief. They felt strong discomfort having them around because they did not want those people to take over their freedom and have strictly controlled rights. This was because of the dangerous threats from the Communist countries toward the United States and Soviet Union for being non-Communists. The United States started by educating children in school how to hide from nuclear weapons or the imposing threat from Communist countries. Students practiced this by ducking under their desks. Some Americans believed ducking under desks for safety was radical and could not save your life or help you at all. However, knowing how to protect yourself from this danger can ease people’s minds by giving them a sense of security and protection which is safer than being uneducated about what could come. This The Government let children know this bomb was so dangerous that it could burn them worse than sunburn could. This information made all people understand the importance of always being prepared for such events to take place. The Government also made it known there were bomb shelters for anyone in need. By the United States showing this much empathy towards their people it lets them know they are safe within the U.S. boundaries. This safety warning eases people’s minds so they can live their normal lives without feeling threatened. People can go to school, jobs, stores and outside and still feel protected from any threat of danger because they know how to hide from it the right …show more content…
Even though there was no physical contact between the United States and the Soviet Union, people thought Communism and nuclear war would destruct and take over. The U.S. comforted it’s people by showing them how to be prepared during the worst situations. This is crucial because the citizens could be severely harmed by the opponents. Also, by making sure there were not any Communists in America. Although, some Americans saw these Cold War Domestic Policies as radical because things like hiding under a desk could not save your life; they are beyond a doubt reasonable because it was helpful to most people to feel safe and have knowledge on quick ways to keep out of dangerous
