The world’s fourth most popular sport is a sport of focus, hand-eye coordination, movement, and competition. Tennis has been around since the 12th century, causing it to be extremely ancient. Like any other sport, it has witnessed discrimination against certain groups of people. The game has drastically changed its views and people that were once prejudiced-people of color and women- are topping the charts and adjusting the barriers even more by initiating equal pay and equal rules. The decrease of race and gender discrimination has increased the quality of play, and has changed the way that tennis is structured and viewed.…
The painting The Tennis Court Oath by Jacques Louis David’s depicts the third estates National Assembly swearing an oath to create a new constitution. Upon first glance, what I initially noticed was the figure in the center, and how the lighting is directly shining on him. He is actively swearing the Tennis Court Oath, and surrounding him are other members of the National Assembly swearing the oath too. The feelings and emotions that are evoked from the painting embraces a sense of unity, as everyone depicted in the painting displays solidarity and enthusiasm in swearing the oath. I believe David was attempting to convey the sheer strength and unity the National Assembly held, and that reflected the intensity of the revolution.…
In Caroline, Or Change by Tony Kushner, Kushner tells the story of a black woman named Caroline, who is a domestic worker living in New Orleans. Caroline works for the Gallman's, and in the house, she befriends Noah, a young boy who recently lost his mother to cancer. The play focuses on two aspects of change: pocket change and the literal idea of change. In an attempt to get Noah to stop leaving pocket change in his clothes, Noah’s new stepmother, Rose, allows Caroline to keep any of the change left in his clothes. However, when Noah ends up leaving a 20 dollar bill, an argument between the two erupts causing Caroline to leave the house for several days.…

I went and saw the play “Charoloett’s Webb” on Saturday at 2:00 P.M. In my opinion, the play was spectacular. To start off evalulating the play, I want to ask three questions: What were the performers trying to accomplish, how well did they accomplish their goal, and was it worth doing? I think that the performers were trying to accomplish portraying the characters in the book appropriatly. I think that the spider,(Charolette)…
My most significant leadership experience would be when I was in the Girls Varsity Tennis Team. I had been in the tennis team during my highschool years, for 2 years. During that time I learned a lot about being a leader, such as what it means to lead others, and what qualities a leader should have. When I first started playing tennis I started at the position on 2nd doubles, to me I took it as that I was not good enough to play against an opponent by myself on the court. Which was entirely true, because when I began playing I was not any good whatsoever.…
Tires crunched on the loose gravel parking lot as I was dropped off at my high school’s tennis courts on the first day of school. With my high school requiring a year of physical education, I opted to take the lifetime sport for I was nervous to compete for a spot on the highly competitive teams my school was known for. I was met at the court by 30 other freshmen with a mixed variety of expertise spanning from the first time to ever hold a racquet to a district ranked player. The district ranked player’s father, Mr. Weaver, was a sophomore chemistry teacher who happened to play tennis professionally in his heyday. Mr. Weaver volunteered to teach the freshman tennis team and to train them the basics before they were transferred to “the real…

Rem Tluangneh This past week, I observed myself in two different scenarios – at a church and at a tennis court. These two situations required me to differentiate my actions based on each particular setting. The setting of the church contains 500 church pews in a low dim light with various band instruments on the altar.…
On the 17th October 2015 we went to watch the performance adaptation of Anita and me at the Birmingham REP by Meera Syal and adapted by Tanika Gupta. The performance starred Mandeep Dhillon as Meena and Jalleh Alizadeh as Anita. The play is a touching example of a beautiful coming of age story and follows the tale of a British-Punjabi girl growing up in the Black Country during the 1970s it explores Meena’s struggle to fit into local culture. She soon develop friendships with both Anita and Sam (played by Joseph Drake), however these friendships soon lead to a struggle between friendship and family.…

Each individual person has a passion. Some people get to pursue their passions and follow their dreams, the majority of people do not. Professional athletes, for example, are infatuated with what they do and can make a living off of this. For those who are fortunate or talented enough, character plays a big part in their success. The greatest tennis player in the history of the sport, Roger Federer, has not only set record after record and won more than any other man, but he has also done more for those in need such as children in Africa.…
