I. Meet the author: Tennessee Williams
1. Tennessee Williams, birth name Thomas Lanier Williams, was born on March 26, 1911, in Columbus, Mississippi. He was the second three children.
2. Williams was raised by his mother, his father was absent during most of his life a his salemnas who was more interested in money than his children and his truant lead to complex relationship with his son. Williams often described his childhood as pleasurable and joyful. But his carefree and boyish childhood was taken when his family moved to St. Louis Missouri which prompted William to write. His parents unstable marriage did nothing to sooth his emotional distress. Williams sister Rose suffered from sever anxiety attacks and was diagnosed with schizophrenia. She spent the remainder of her life in a mental hospital and was giving a frontal lobotomy, which like most cases did not work and it left her incapacitated. The lobotomy, contributed to Williams’ depression, alcoholism, and addiction

Stella describes her husband as a “different species” because of his Polish heritage he is seen as ignorant and inferior but Stella describes him as a different species to Blanche because she wants her to know that he's is not like the Polcok stereotype. Stella also describes her husband the morning after the poker game. While she lies on her bed, Blanche quietly enters the house terrified. Blanche is relieved to find Stella well and unarmed but she was upset that Stella decided to return to Stanley after what he did. Stella then tells Blanche that she is making a issue of nothing and claims that she loves Stanley the way he is. She explains to Blanche that that Stanley has always been violent and that his violence while scary to Blanche trills her. Stella also tells Blanche that on her honeymoon, Stanley, smashed all of the lightbulbs with her shoe. Regardless of her explaining Blanche attacks Stanley character but Stella remains calm and simply states that she loves Stanley the way he
