Ten Unplanned Pregnancies End With Abortion

In 2011, there were 730, 322 abortions. Since then there has been a twelve percent decrease. Of all the pregnancies in the U.S., half of them are unintended. Four out of ten unplanned pregnancies end with abortions. Yearly, 1.7% of women between the ages of fifteen and forty abort. About half of those have had abortions before. The lowest percent of abortions are girls under the age of fifteen, with less than 1 percent. The highest percent are women between the ages of twenty and twenty-four. An abortion is the ending of a pregnancy. An abortion can be done up to twenty-four weeks. At twenty weeks, though, unborn babies can feel pain. At twenty weeks, the fetal brain has the full complement of brain cells that are in adult brains. Surgeons have seen the unborn babies flinch and recoil when performing corrective procedures in the womb. The neural pathways are present for pain to be experienced early on. …show more content…
