Ten Little Soldier Boys Analysis

William Blore has just been killed. Vera Claythorne thinks that Dr. Armstrong has killed Blore because of the poem Ten Little Soldier Boys. Blore was killed by a “red herring” following the poem. Now it’s just Vera Claythorne and Philip Lombard left alive on Soldier Island. Lombard and Vera have not ever accused each other of being the murderer. Both of them now inside their hearts that they’re meant to be together. There’s just one problem with that though. If those two are the only ones left on the island one of them must be the murderer. Both of them have to trust each other in this situation. They sit in Vera’s room now observing the poem on the wall. Lombard looks at her and says
“Vera, you know that I would never hurt you. I promise that I am NOT the murderer.
You can trust me.” Vera looks at him like she knows that he’s Mr. Owen, but she cannot get her

Vera heard him say sweetheart and her heart skips a beat. The footsteps got louder and louder until Philip hears a gunshot from the kitchen and Vera falls letting go of his shirt tail. Phillip turns around and vera was shot in her chest. Immediately he rips his jacket off and cleans up the blood. He isn’t worried about who else is in the house with them. All he cares about is saving Vera. Lombard started CPR on her and he felt a breath come from her. She grabs his hand says “I love you” as she gasps for air. Lombard quickly replies with “I love you too Vera.” As she is still gasping for air he runs her up the stairs to her bed. The man who shot Vera is chasing after him up the stairs. Lombard running as fast as he can up the stairs with Vera in his arms. Finally, they reach her room and he puts her on the bed and tells her “Don’t you worry, you’re going to be just fine. I will keep protected. I’m going to lock you in here and I’ll take the key. Once I find out who shot you I will come and get
