It’s a windy spring day and you have decided to buy an ice cream cone. As the employee at the ice cream cart scoops your chocolate ice cream, you search through your purse to find money that will pay for your tasty treat. The smallest bill you have is a ten dollar bill. As you pull it out of your purse, the wind takes the money out of your hand. You chase it and finally get close enough to stomp your foot on top to stop the wild chase. As you pull it closer to you, you notice the date printed at the bottom. You stop and think before walking back to retrieve your snack, about how many people have bought things with this bill before it came to you. The ten dollar bill has held the faces of different presidents over the years. The past, present, and future of the bill is fascinating and exciting to think about.

According to “What Are People Saying about #TheNew10?”, in 1929, Alexander Hamilton became the new face of the ten dollar bill. The size of the bill was decreased to the size we see today. They changed the back of the bill to show the treasury building. The building was supposed to give the people hope in America’s economy during the Great Depression. The bill remained the same with only a few security updates and changes to the treasury building until 2006. In 2006, the paper of the bill was updated to have red, yellow, and orange colors on it. The ring around Hamilton’s portrait was also eliminated. Depictions including the torch of the Statue of Liberty and the famous line “We the People” from the Constitution were added to represent freedom.
