Development is dynamic
Development is changing something from a lessor state to a higher state. In this case, the discussion is taking a baby from fewer skills to more skills. A baby’s development brings together many elements to make a new whole. Dynamic development encompasses, mother-infant relationships, imitation, language, social relationships, perception and action. These dynamic development experiences are self-organizing. The baby learns new skills as they encounter obstacles in their environment and need to create new ways to overcome the obstacle. The video, The Baby Human, To Belong, shows the results of a study regarding two and three year old subjects and their ability to self-regulate. The two year olds do not have the skills to work together, share or control their impulses. As the baby matures these skills start to develop and by age three, depending somewhat on temperament, the baby is much better at all these skills. (The Baby Human: To Belong, 2003) As shown here, the baby human is an active participant in their development. The next section will discuss their participation in more
