R at a mindset that he may not be a part of the bigger picture much longer since he is not predisposed to future cancers. Also, with the new change of the temporary colostomy, he will may present with altered body image, and elimination pattern. If Mr. R did not have psychological counseling for what may come to fruition, He can fall into the stagnation side of Erikson’s theory, which will reduce relations with others and himself. While keeping this in mind I have chosen to use Imogene King’s systems interaction model the theory of goal attainment. Lucy Hood describe the purpose of King’s Model by stating, “…the purpose of nursing is to help people attain, maintain, or restore health, primarily by mutual goal setting” (Hood, 2013, p. 129). My initial goal I believe would be to create the mutual respect and interaction between each other. Although, I am not going what he is, the nurse will be with him each step of the way. Next, through communication we would discuss his perceptions on his diagnosis, recover, and colostomy. I would explain the care required while going through recover, and teach him how to care for his colostomy in order to fix any knowledge deficit or negative affect that would halt recover. Once we establish the aforementioned basis, I would begin to cover the future. The only difference after his surgery than the average person is he is now a cancer survivor (focus on the positives), and he now eliminates differently, but as long as we work together it will remain temporary. Through his recover he may come across some stressors or events that will affect his healing mentally and physically. Before and during a stressors occurrence, I would instruct him of his resources to help provide care and assist him with his needs. As previously state, his idea of self may change from time to time, so positive enforcement of realization he is still the same person is important. Together we would go through the process of healing and care. I would promote and encourage him to actively perform bag changes and stoma care as a part of his
