In his town there was not a doctor, so he and his family went to a local remedies woman, who poured lilly water onto the cut. The next day he woke up with crust over his eye, and his family took him to Paris because it was the nearest place that had a doctor (Adler 16). When they got there, they had discovered from the doctor that both eyes were infected and could not fix them (Adler 16). The infection spread to the other eye, and he was soon totally blind (Adler 17). He and his family drove to the school. When he had arrived, his father gave him a present, it was a walking cane that his father had carved. At the school he learned how to read and write plus he made a few friends. One day there was a guest at the school his name was Robert Johnson, and he was a General in the United States military (Freedman 14). Mr. Johnson had created a way for soldiers to talk at night without making a sound. It was called sonography many of the soldiers could not figure it out, neither could the children at the school, they thought it was to hard but Louis wanted to learn it so he did
