Temple University Experience

Coming to the conclusion that I would like to transfer from Temple University was a hard and heartbreaking decision, but I felt it had to be done. The sense of community and the support on campus was positive and I’d love to see that in the school I attend in the fall. I admire how close-knit Temple is despite its size. However, the size of the school has been an issue in the aspect of the university's overall organization. There was no entrance exam for Mandarin Chinese, and when I tried to be placed into a higher Mandarin class I was told to meet with several different people and there was a lot of miscommunication. After meeting with several teachers and advisors and being told I could have taken Chinese 2, I was told by my academic advisor I wouldn’t be able to take a higher Chinese class. Something similar to this happened for my placement in Mathematics classes as well. When I took the placement test I was emailed that I had placed into one math class, then at orientation I was told to sign up for a math class that was three levels below said mathematics class. …show more content…
I love being part of such a large community, but at the same time, this can make meeting with teachers or counselors much harder. At home, I had a counselor that I would see regularly, but now that I am six hours away it is much harder for me to see her. As for the counseling services at Temple, because it is such a large school it is much harder to see a counselor for more than four visits. Dealing with mental illness in college hasn’t been too difficult, and being in a new environment and learning new things has been very good for me and my overall mental health. However, I feel that being closer to home would be more helpful when I do feel certain symptoms of my mental illness, depression, that can interfere with my school

My mother, Annette MacRitchie, made the life changing decision to come to TWU from Ontario. In 1985, she had the privilege of being awarded the Terry Fox Scholarship, which she could choose to use at any Canadian University. She chose to attend Trinity because at that time it was the only Christian university in Canada. It turns out she never moved back to Ottawa, and the bonds made at Trinity have survived the test of time. To this day, she still tells me it was the best decision she made in her younger years.…

While researching Prairie State college, a two year, suburban community college that was founded in 1957; I came across some concerning information. According to the statistics provided by Collegescorecard.ed.gov, Prairie State College consistently ranks lower than the national median. For instance, only 40 percent of P.S.C’s students return after their first year of attending this is significantly lower than the national median by 69 percent. In addition to the institution having a graduation rate of 15 percent, the average salary after attending prairie state college is an alarming amount of 29,200 dollars. After reading this I began to question Prairie State’s productivity since the U.S. Census Bureau reported the national median in 2013…

After graduating from Surry Early College, I might decide to attend Winston Salem State University (WSSU) or University of North Carolina at Greensboro (UNCG). WSSU is a very large, public university in a urban setting in Winston Salem itself. If I was to transfer to Winston Salem State University, they would have a flexible process to evaluate each course of the transcript of a Associate of Arts (AA) or an Associates of Science (AS) degree. The university is able to accredit me with a baccalaureate, masters, or a doctorate degree from psychological studies to arts and visual studies. Going to WSSU would be around $5377.16, but they offer financial aid to help cover the costs.…

CCU and Mount St. Joseph University both have similar opportunities when it comes to their business school. The first opportunity that the two universities share is increasing the amount of online classes they offer. Both schools only offer a few select courses that are available to take online.
