Temple Mount
Jerusalem has long been referred to as one of the most holy geographical locations on Earth and home to the sacred Temple Mount. Temple Mount has served as a central location for religious worship to numerous different religions and rulers, yet despite this unity, it has caused much separation throughout the land. The history of the Temple Mount dates back to a time filled with religion, bloodshed, and conflict and has continued this pattern century after century. Permanently located in the old city of Jerusalem, ownership of the temple mount has been an everlasting argument and strongly debated among the three major monotheistic religions. Divided in beliefs, Jews believe there is only one God in one form and view Jesus as bad while Christians believe he is the Messiah, God the son. Solely based on faith Christianity encompassing the life and teachings of Jesus Christ and well known for its symbolism. Under the Christian faith the Temple of Jerusalem played a vital role surrounding the birth, life and death of Jesus Christ. Jesus was taken to the Temple and there he was presented to the Lord along with a sacrifice in accordance to the Law of the Lord. The Temple Mount was a place that Jesus would go and celebrate the Jewish festivals. Similar to the way Jesus is viewed in Christianity the Koran is equivalent in Islam. However, Muslims view Jesus as a prophet but not as the son of God. Muslims claim that upon conquering the city of Jerusalem in the year 638 they found the Temple Mount to be in an abandoned state. The platform was restored and on it, they built the Dome of the Rock which was completed in the year 691. Referring to the Temple Mount as the Haram Al-Sharif or the Noble Sanctuary Muslims consider it as the third holiest site in Islam. It is the belief that it is the location from which the prophet Muhammad ascended to heaven and today it houses the Dome of the Rock shrine and Al-Aqsa Mosque. According to Muslim theology any land once owned by Islam is forever holy to Islam and if lost it must be repossessed. Muslim theology also claims that Islam is the latest revelation from God that has replaced both Christianity and Judaism. In coherence with the Islamic faith, though contrary to popular belief Muhammad is considered to be the final prophet, not Allah or God but a prophet chosen by Allah to deliver his message.
