Key Idea 1 What is Autism?: Finding out the news that Temple had autism was a little too much for her dad, Richard, he was disgusted by his oldest child. Temple’s parents fought very often because of her disorder. When she first got tested they weren’t for sure what was wrong with Temple. A neurologist, Bronson Cruthers, tried different tests like gluing wires to Temple’s head to measure the electrical activity in her brain, no damage found; when her ears were tested they found no hearing problem. They finally figured out that she had autism. Autistic children don’t act as normal children would. For example, one child went to a teacher and said another student was “making a strange noise.” The teacher then found out that “noise” was the student crying.
