The Temperate Deciduous Forest is home to many species such as beavers, newts, opossums, porcupines, foxes, scorpions, skunks, and weasels.
The weather in the Temperate Deciduous Forest is cool and rainy. It also has four seasons, just as we do. In the fall the leaves change colors, in the winter they fall off the trees, in the spring they regrow, and in the summer they flourish with bright green colors. Located in North America, Europe, Asia, South America, Africa, and Australia, the growing season for this forest lasts six months long. The dominant sandstone grain size is evidence of a fluvial depositional environment at Stop 2. The Late-Triassic age alluvial and fluvial arkose of the Deerfield Basin makes up the main strata sequence. Stop 3 reveals the Deerfield Basalt followed by lava flow in the strata column. The transition between Fall River Beds and Sugarloaf Arkose is at the Triassic and Jurassic boundary (Figure 5).…

Over the course of the 20th century the Pacific Northwest was largely shaped by events that occurred in both the national and international level. In the past the Pacific Northwest was a hinterland and therefore its economy was effected directly by events that occurred outside of the region. This trend continued during the 20th century as well; although the region was not a hinterland any more, it continued to grow and change based on events occurring outside of the region, whether it is global or within the nation. These events affected the region economically, through the depression and multiple wars occurring during this time, and socially through the removal of Japanese and the increased immigration of African Americans. All together these…

This change is called succession or, the evolution of biomes. The creation of the deciduous biome is mostly thanks to lichens and rocks. The forests are mostly made up of sedimentary rocks and, these sedimentary rocks are broken down over time by the acid that is given off when a lichen is attached to it. This cycle of breaking down rocks creates a very fertile soil which is great for small grass and weeds to grow in. Once the weeds and grass die they add more nutrient to the soil making it even richer than it was before, allowing the growth of small bushes and trees.…

The Great Bear Rainforest is a temperate rainforest of 6.4 million hectares, home to many rare and endangered species, as well as watersheds that provide the best salmon runs left in Canada. Unfortunately, the Great Bear Rainforest is under threat due to clearcutting and its effects on the environment. According to the David Suzuki Foundation, “30% of logging in the Great Bear Rainforest has been in watersheds since 2001”, meaning the water quality of that area has been affected. As for wildlife, deforestation is one of the leading causes of animal extinction in the world today. Due to the negative effects deforestation has on wildlife and watersheds, the acts of clearcutting in the Great Bear Rainforest must subside.…
