In the article “Reflection on Mirror Neurons” by Temma Ehrenfield presents the idea that a term known as Mirror neurons has a great impact on our lives. Mirror neurons means that a neuron fires when an animal acts and when the animal observes the same action performed by another. According to the author, these findings are subject to state that the mirror system plays a key role in our ability to become empathetic as well as be able to socialize with others. Since we communicate verbally there are still other factors that tie into how we interact like for instance hand gestures and facial expressions. The author demonstrates this by depicting certain parts of the article, for instance, when she speaks about how monkeys mirrored when they saw a human grasp food but not when they used a tool. It showed that because the monkeys were unfamiliar with using tools it would be of no use of them to mirror that certain objective.
Throughout the article the author argues that Mirror neurons are the key aspect of how humans, and animals function on an everyday basis. To support her accusation she says that mirroring is something that you learn and over time become experienced in. Because this is my first paper I tried my best to explain in detail what I felt should have been focused on. The sections that were easier for me to talk about would be section 4 and 5 because it allowed me to give my own personal thoughts into the paper instead of the authors. I don’t think I had sufficient preparation prior to writing this paper I believe it would have been better if I had an old paper to go off of or a rubric just to give insight on how the grading goes.
