“The Tell Tale Heart” is really a murder mystery in which the narrator makes a plot to kill the old man. However, the real plot of the story is Poe’s is Poe’s patterns of craziness and his obsession and displacement as one person tries to accomplish what all human beings wish to do, beat or defeat the person that’s you think is trying to kill you. To understand what the eye means in the story, the reader must take Poe’s advice in his short story and how it determines how all the details go together and create the `theme and effect.
