Prior to administering this assessment, I did not expect students to have any prior knowledge on why animals, specifically squirrels collect food in the fall. I did expect students to be able to answer question number 1 “Tell me 3 things you see in the fall.” I did not expect them to be able to give more than 1 example. I expected their answers to be generalized answers and not specific. I did not expect students to be able to correctly identify a vein in a leaf because they have never needed to know what a vein is or what it does. I did expect students to know seeds are in a pumpkin but did not expect students to identify and know that seeds and pulp are in a pumpkin. While I did expect students to access their prior knowledge to answer the stages of the life cycle, I did expect most students would not be able to match all six stages correctly. Even though I had taught the life cycle of an apple, the life cycle has more stages with different growing patterns. …show more content…
Most students answered leaves changing color. In my sub-group 0 out 4 students were not able to give 3 examples that can be found in the fall. When asked why animal collect acorns in the fall 50% answered correctly and 50% answered incorrectly. In my sub-group 0 out of 4 answered the question incorrectly. In both my large group and sub-group less than 75% of students answered question number 2 “Which of the following color is the vein on a leaf.” When asked to match the correct picture to the correct stage more than 75% of my students in my large group were able to match the picture for stage 1 and stage 2. Less than 75% of my in my large group were unable to correctly match the picture for stages 4-6. In my sub-group less than 75% of students were unable to match the correct picture to correct stage for all 6
