In With the New Television started broadcasting in black and white, and now it is high definition. The evolution of television programs is astonishing. Shows of the 1960’s thru 1980’s for example Happy Days, and the I Love Lucy show were conservative compared to the shows currently on television. People who watch television are becoming more open minded. Media does play a big role in real world youth culture. The television shows feed the minds of the young. In other words television programs that are being showcased today do affect the minds of young people, but not in a negative way. Television in this day and age is immensely influential. Programs on television today are educational about real world issues; they bring awareness to subjects that are not being attended, and help young people become aware of present day circumstances that may affect society. Programs that are currently being released are educational. For instance, the transgender community has been a hot topic recently, and many were educated about the transitioning process by just watching the reality show, Keeping up with the Kardashians. Many young people that are transitioning do not have any moral support. Sometimes they turn to suicide because of the emotional trauma they experience. Some may be having similar situations, and now feel that they are not alone after watching Keeping up with the Kardashians.
