Children have wild imaginations and when they are watching their favorite television program, they are constantly trying to impersonate them. Not only are the children consuming the violence through the television, but they are also trying to integrate their favorite hero 's actions into their actual lives. Talking from personal experience, I remember myself always trying to do what my father was doing even if it wasn 't possible. As children, we all feel the need to try and act like the people around us because we believe that is the way that we are supposed to act. In this cartoon, Tom the cat is always trying to hurt Jerry the mouse. They go after one other and beat each other in a seemingly harmless way. The reason that this is not an appropriate depiction of violence is because it is teaching kids that hurting other people is funny and that their actions can have no terminal consequences. In reality, if children attempted the same violent actions that Tom and Jerry do, there would be a considerable amount of fatal injuries. This show is sending the message that it is okay for children to hurt one another because not only will it be comical, but it also has no real
