Tv Is Evil

Does every aspect that television involve vile? Should people completely avoid television as Karen Springen’s daughter, Jazzy, did? That is, as the mother of Jazzy and Gigi, Karen Springen, did, should parents not allow their kids to watch television? Should parents, similarly to Springen, say, “We don’t allow our kids to watch TV. Period[?]” Even though there are educational channels that can actually benefit children and adults in their academics, should children and adults avoid watching these educational programs solely because televisions display them? Should people who receive spiritual enhancements through helpful spiritual programs stop watching these encouraging programs because the television broadcast them? As the picture on the side (figure 1) depicts, would it be appropriate to conclude that all television is evil, in spite …show more content…
Both focus on the evilness of televised media. While there are truths with both arguments (e.g., violence and sexual explicitness are toxic), people should not generalize television as being fully toxic. A great non-toxic aspect of television is its ability to present the news to people in a matter of seconds. If a natural disaster was to hit a specific location, televisions are instrumental in warning the people in that precise area. Because televisions save people’s life through informatively warning them to evacuate the endangered premise, is television evil? Directors direct television channels such as FOX News, CNN, and NBC that provide the news, which also occasionally provide violent truths. Are these channels, which have helped informed people (e.g., they have informed people politically, academically, technologically, culturally, and concerning important contemporary events), evil? No, people are now more aware of making an accurate action because they comprehend the news. Thus, because television broadcast informative news, which can be lifesaving, television is

In “TV’s Negative Influence on Kids Reaffirmed” by Jeffrey M. McCall, he warns parents that too much television is bad for your kids. McCall says that recent studies confirm that kids who are saturated with television are damaged in many ways. McCall also states that kids who absorb a lot of media whether it be television, video games, or the internet are less likely to do well in school, less well-adjusted socially, and more likely to be overweight than kids who are low users of media. A separate study at the University of North Carolina found 12- to 14-year olds who watched television with high sexual content were twice as likely to have intercourse by age sixteen. McCall argues that television is a cultural legitimizer for kids and teen…

Television shows an unrealistic view of our society that distracts on what is really happening in our world and our lives. As soon as they got back to the rest-house, she swallowed six half-gramme tablets of soma...” (Huxley 140).…

Often times the screen is on channels such as, FOX News or FX, rather than an educational PBS or Nickelodeon. The mass medias ability to attract spectators for hours at a time, influence viewers to purchase products, and portray characters in roles based on stereotype and prejudice, are only a few of the negative affects the media demonstrates to children viewers who watch their screens religiously. Pediatrics & Child Health’s article wrote an article titled, Impact of Media Use on Children and Youth, which regarded their belief that extensive media exposure should be an issue discussed with a child’s Pediatrician. The article says “The influence of the media on the psychosocial development of children is profound. Thus, it is important for physicians to discuss with parents their child’s exposure to media and to provide guidance on age-appropriate use of all media, including television, radio, music, video games and the Internet.”…

Neal Gabler’s assertive diction delivers the truth about entertainment by saying it will “... overturn all morality…” and “... poison the springs of domestic happiness…”. While Gabler took these quotes from a nineteenth century critic, they still hold true in today’s twenty-first century society. The forms of entertainment that wreak the most havoc are movies and TV shows. Slowly but surely, these two things are psychologically damaging people, giving people the wrong idea about life, and making people lazy. To sum it up, entertainment is ruining society.…

According to Yaah Baya and Mberia (2014), “ many people claim there is no observable impact of television on adolescents, yet parents and teachers have shown much concern about the effect of television on our young people” (p 1). Television contributes to more adverse health and behavioral outcomes than positive. When adolescents are entertained by reality shows, music videos, and advertisements the possibility of negative exposure increases. A lot of these types of entertainment options can very easily lead to inappropriate and dysfunctional behaviors. The advertising of negativity contributes to deviant behavior (Browne & Hamilton-Giachritsis, 2005).…

Is child molestation unforgivable, repulsive, and sinful? Yes, in my eyes at least child molestation is all of what I just mentioned, and I’m sure many others share this view. The issue of discussion is not TLC’s standpoint in allegations towards Josh Duggar, because he has already admitted and apologized for his actions 12 years ago. The central matter of debate regards whether or not TLC should continue running the show 19 Kids And Counting. As TLC is deemed as a reality t.v channel, it is not a requirement in their job description to pretentiously display their legal views and beliefs.…

Neil Postman’s 1985 novel “Amusing Ourselves to Death” presents many interesting and well-thought out claims, one of the major ones being about television and the dangers it presents to society. His main points on this subject pertaining to the fact …”that television has reduced our ability to take the world seriously.” By this, Postman is addressing the fact that all the information we receive now is through the television. Leading into one of his largest, and debatably most important, assertions, our society is morphing into something similar to Aldous Huxley’s “A Brave New World”. Where the people are controlled by entertainment and pleasure.…

The addictive nature of television prevents man from doing beneficial things and obligations to his religion and mankind.
