McDonald’s thinks they are doing everything they can to make people healthier. In reality their food is contributing to weight gain in America. Of course any step taken in the right direction will help the society become healthier. This is very important because of the rise in obesity. Most of the customers appreciate the gesture but this does not mean that they really take it into consideration. A majority of people when eating fast food are not paying attention to the amount of calories they are taking in. They just want greasy nasty food or they want the convenience of the drive thru. Once an individual embarks on their journey to a healthier lifestyle, they envision the “perfect” body. This “perfect” body that can be seen all over advertisements is only possessed by five percent of the population. (Franco). So many people want this body but truly do not understand how unrealistic it is. They look at models and will do whatever it takes to get this body. This sets them up for failure right from the beginning. This leads to body shamming. Calorie intake is a direct source of body shamming. A study found that individuals who stuck with their diet and had dietary restraints were more likely to body shame if they had lessened their calorie intake and had gained weight after the seven days. (Troop). Body shamming can be found at all ages. Young girls are now taught to watch what they eat so they do not get fat. If they do not have the ideal body they begin to hate their bodies at a young age which will lead to low self-esteem as they become young adults and into their adulthood. Body shamming is just the beginning for the dangerous habits people get into when trying to lose weight.
