CBS’ version of Watson, who in this series is a woman by the name of Joan Watson, is also not immune to said changes. Joan in the beginning of the series is a sober companinon to one consulting detective from England Sherlock Holmes, who has just recently exited a rehabilitation clinic with a drug problem now in remission. This Watson has never been in any military service, instead she is an exsurgeon with a sharp analytical mind and, compaired to other versions of herself, very little physical trainging. This Watson is of Chinese ancestry, she has long dark hair and a much more colourful wardrobe. Initially there is a lot of conflict between Watson and Holmes, because as per usual Sherlock is very much a know-it-all with issues on relating meaningfully to other people, and who can not accept anyone else’s help even if he needs it. By the third season she is an accomplished detective in her own right, consulting on her own with the New York City Police Department, a practicioner of a fighting style called singlestick (taught to her by Holmes), and the proud owner of a varied arsenal of combat and deduction.
