To this day the viewership for Telemundo has been increasing. As stated previously, the notable difference between Telemundo and Univision when it comes to Telenovelas is that most of Telemundo’s novelas are mostly based on real events or realistic fiction. This new genre in telenovela changes the gender in viewerships. Univison telenovelas are more dramatic and romantic therefore women are more likely to watch it. On the other hand, Telemundo’s genre attracts a more neutral gender. Therefore, this attracts a larger audience which makes the ratings rise higher.

At the beginning of July the ratings were as the following:

At 6pm viewers on certain days favor either the telenovela Sueño De Amor in Univision or the Latin arbitration-based reality court show Caso Cerrado on Telemundo.

At 7pm, there is a constant viewership on the telenovela Camino Hacia al Destino in Univision

At 9pm, Telemundo wins with El Señor de Los Cielos.

By the end of July the ratings changed due to Telemundo’s first triple release of three new back to back telenovelas. Telemundo had the highest rating over all by 6% according to the Nielsen’s rating. The three new telenovela were: At 7pm Silvana Sin Lana (Silvana Without No Money), a comedy about a wealthy women loosing her fortune. At 8pm, Sin Senos Si Hay Paraiso (Without Brest There is a Paradise), a sequel to the first telenovela Sin Senos No Hay Paraiso (Without Breast There is No Paradise) and Señora Acero: La Coyote at 9pm, third season of the telenovela Señora Acero.

As stated previously, the fame that series have brought to Telemundo cannot be defined as a way to belief that the typical telenovelas are no longer favorable among Latinos. The success in series are mainly due to two factors: gender and genre. All of Telemundo’s successful series are action/crime. This is an unusual genre for Latin viewers that attract both women and men viewers.

When it comes to the topic does “16 and Pregnant” promote or discourage pregnancy, most of us will readily agree that the show promotes teen pregnancy. Where this agreement usually ends, however, is on the question of those that are actually teen moms.
