Healthcare is one of the most important aspects of services that are provided the world over. It is a service that is fundamental for the very survival of the human race. It is for this reason that advances in this area should never stagnate. The only way to ensure that there are constant developments in the healthcare sphere is through consistent research into ways of making healthcare service more effective, safer and more efficient. Advances in medicine such as the use of telemedicine have ensured that doctors can provide their services to their patients far away from each other, a fact which minimizes the rush during emergencies to get to where the doctors …show more content…
It ensures that there are actionable developments in the industry, which in turn ensure that the healthcare industry is ever evolving with changes, not only in the industry but also in other areas such as technology. As such, the influence of evidence based research cannot be gainsaid or ignored. Without implementing this mode of research, actionable models of practice in the telemedicine healthcare industry would not be developed and the healthcare industry would, as a result, stagnate (Bloomrosen & Detmer, 2010). The net effect of this would be a telemedicine healthcare system that cannot keep up with the changing times and by extension an unhealthier and more at risk …show more content…
All these issues go into determining the manner of research, the area of research as well as the amount of resources poured into a particular area of telemedicine research (LeRouge & Garfield, 2013). The first factor is the technological aspect. Technology is ever evolving. This means that with each evolution, telemedicine should research on how such new technology can be implemented into the healthcare system. Various aspects of technology influence research. For one, the level of complexity of the technology would inform the need for deeper research in order to understand that particular technology and how best it can be used in a healthcare setting. The second external influence on telemedicine is that of finances. Technology is not cheap to acquire. Neither is technology cheap to install and implement. As such, in order to begin research on any new technology in the context of telemedicine, there would have to be availed funding to allow the research to be undertaken. Access to financing will also inform the level and type of technology that will be researched (LeRouge & Garfield, 2013). As such, this is a highly influential external influence in telemedicine healthcare
