Telemachus Character Analysis

To some Odysseus causes hatred and war, but for his son his father is his inspiration for what he does. Telemachus doesn’t have the power and the brains when it comes to battles or wars but with a gathered information about his father’s works, Telemachus wants to be somewhat like Odysseus. Telemachus wants to know how and when is the proper attack when it comes to battles, how strong the army should be, and the tactics. With the help of Odysseus, Telemachus learns after the ways of his father (Sale). Like Odysseus having such confidence in himself, faith, and courage went to fight against Troy. Telemachus on the other hand, managed to escape the problems with the suitors and went on a short voyage with Athena. When he came back to Ithaca, he met his father, Odysseus, and both of them planned how to exterminate the suitors (Forman). Telemachus was inspired to go into a small journey because he wanted to gather more information about his father, Odysseus, if he had never heard that he was alive, he would’ve of never went. Since he has been considered as a hero in the book and the protector of his people, family, and himself. Odysseus has showed his weaknesses and his strongest points in the book and has never failed to any of his missions that was given to him by the deities. He wasn’t there when Telemachus was growing up but still tried to be a good father and a good role model to his son. His perseverance as a husband to see his wife and son again was the result of his ten years voyage of facing different kinds of temptations and trust.
