Telemachos And Poly: Passage Analysis

Improved Essays
While reading this passage, I started thinking back to when the text first mentioned Polydora. When Poly was first mentioned Telemachos obviously didn't like her. He labeled her as the annoying younger sister who he had no interest in associating himself with. After reading this passage, it's obvious that Telemachos has changed his mind. In this excerpt, Telemachos focuses on Poly's hair and face. If I know anything about social interactions, this is a definite sign that Telemachos has feelings for Polydora. If Telemachos and Poly don't end up a couple by the end of the book, I'll eat my foot. Ok, not literally, but I have a lot of hope for Telemachos and Polydora. What I'm curious about is what changed Telemachos's mind about Poly. Normally I would say this change of mind is because Telemachos has matured, but there has been so little time between the beginning of the book and this portion of the book that I don't think this could be reasonable. Perhaps this could be because Telemachos and Poly haven't spent quality time together and …show more content…
If it had not been for Polydora, Oogoro might have hurt Telemachos and Brax. If it wasn't for Brax than Telemachos wouldn't have had rowing help or a traveling companion for the first half of his trip. After all the assistance that Polydora and Brax had given Telemachos it surprised me when he left them behind. This passage made me happy, like ice cream on a sunny day. I couldn't imagine Telemachos continuing his quest for his father as a party of one, and the idea of Brax and Poly alone in a foreign world was unsettling. Just as I began to lose hope of seeing Poly and Brax again, they showed up! It was nice to see Brax looking out for Telemachos and Poly back to her clever ways. When Telemachos left his friends, he ended up stranded in the middle of nowhere. I hope that Telemachos has learned his lesson and won't leave his travel companions

IV. Cisneros’s writing is reminiscent of poetry. It’s sort of confusing and awkward, quite different from the smooth flow in books I’ve read before. The direct, earnest tone is also rather new as well. Even though the writing style is somewhat simplistic and abrupt at times, it does leave an impression.…

Telemachos decides that she should not be present in the bow and arrow competition, that only men should be allowed to handle those types of events. He defines the fact that he is in charge of the belongings of the house and the house is yet under his power but not his and Penelope’s unified power. As he claims to be categorized with the men he wants to certainly play the role of one which would include demands and receiving obedience from a woman. The repetition of Telemachos’ statements, sending Penelope off to her bedroom shows him holding power. Penelope’s bedroom symbolically represents her emptiness and since there is nothing for her in the bedroom it shows that Telemachos is taking away her power as he holds his steady.…
