As we reach a quarter of our way through the new millennium, electronics and cyber internet resources have all but dominated as well as consumed our personal lives. This technology has encroached in the same way, on the field of medicine, in the form of what has become known as, Tele-ICU, in other words, “televised-intensive care units.' Through the efforts of technical and medical staff, this type of technology has greatly improved the quality of health care in these type of units. The concept of telemedicine dates back to the 1970’s, when medical staff would reach out to experts in a particular medical field, through telephone consultations. This process did not always expedite care, especially in the case of emergency situations. It was only beneficial when the telephone calls between the physicians were pre-scheduled to ensure the consulting expert was available. In the 1990’s, telephone consults evolved into television consulting, which on the whole greatly minimized the time frames for patient’s hospital stay and expanded the clinical benefits of patients care. (NEHI). But like everything else, it is obvious that the reason there are so few tele-ICU’s is they are so expensive. Construction, installation, annual operational and training of a basic table-ICU command center range from 2 million to 7 million dollars. Furthermore, to meet this inevitable demand for ICU care, hospital administrators must understand that this technology is truly needed. The long-term effects on the medical staff and patients are undeniable positive ones.
