Teens serving Life sentence cruel and unusual punishment?

Imaging growing up to parents that are drugs addicts, there is no food, no stable environment, and no guidance; you are just an innocent kid trying to survive this cruel world we live in. Some children find people that care about their well-being, and can help guide them to have a better future. On the other hand, there are some children that are not so lucky. The juvenile system is where a lot of children go because they found themselves into trouble and need help. 2,570 is the number of Children serving a life sentence in prison without the possibility of parole. The United Sates is the only country that sentence children to die in prison. Nearly half of the juveniles that are sentence to LWOP committed non-violent crimes. “ The legal system has no problems assigning children responsibility for their own decisions, implicitly concluded that crime committed by the young is the product of a deliberate decision-making process. These children die in prison (Schutte, Behind bars forever).”
Imagine that it is your first time in trouble and you made a mistake and you think that you are just going to get probation or serve a little time in jail but the verdicts come back with sentence of LWOP. That is exactly what happened to Joe Sullivan and 59% of other juveniles who are sentence to such hard punishment and they are first time offenders.
