Teen Driving
Teenagers should not be able to drive at the age of sixteen. It can put their lives and other’s lives at risk. There are a lot of reasons why teens should not be able to drive at such a young age; there are many ways they could get hurt. They could get in a car crash and suffer injuries such as brain damage, or paralysis. Since their brain is not developed, this damage could be permanent. The legal driving age for teenagers should be raised.
Raising the legal driving age can save many lives. “In 2007, more than 4,000 teens died as occupants of passenger vehicles; sixty-one percent of them were in vehicles driven by other teens” (Lund 1). “Research indicates that when teens begin driving at a later age, they’ are less likely to get into crashes …show more content…
Those who want to raise the driving age have labeled teens guilty before they are’re gotten into an accident or before they have’ve even sat behind the wheel of a car” (LundKoroknay-Palicz). Research and statistics show that teens are not ready to drive for a number of reasons. They have the highest accident rates, and their brains are not fully developed. This is not their fault. Some teens may say, “Well I think I am responsible and careful enough to drive, why should I not be able to?” They do not understand what they are asking. While the majority of teens act this way, many do not know the serious risks they are taking every time they set foot in a vehicle. They may feel it is unfair because their freedom of the open road has been taken away, or that they are still being treated like a small child. However, there are reasons why most parents worry about their children being on the road, especially at night, because they know what could happen. Hopefully, teens would much rather keep their lives instead of losing them because of how badly they want
