For example, when his parents question him about homework, his parents never know whether he's lying, causing them to say “ ‘But he tells us he doesn’t have any homework or he did it all in study hall. How are we to know what to believe?’ ” (2), when talking to Donny's principal. Donny doesn’t prioritize homework as being something important, which shows that he doesn’t care about school. Donny not prioritizing homework as something important shows that he can’t be trusted to do because of his lack of interest. Donny is too prideful of how his peers see him get over this unliked activity. Secondly, his teachers don't trust him to listen in school and study for test telling Donny in class “ ‘Hadn’t you better be listening instead of talking?’ ‘That’s okay, Miss Evans, he says. I have a tutor now.’ ” (5). Having a tutor allows Donny to have a sudden belief that he doesn’t have to work hard anymore. That’s not the reality. Having a tutor means you need to be more trustworthy to do your work along with your teacher assigned work. For instance, Donny has no concern for the other kids in class being, “noisy, lazy, disruptive; always fooling around with his friends,”(2) as said by the principal of the school. Donny can’t think about how others are because he’s too self-centered, which is the cause of being indifferent. He believes that the world revolves around him like he is the sun in our solar system and everything revolves around him. Furthermore, after going to a new school Donny doesn't seem concerned to tell anyone when he leaves as his mother stated "The first week in June, during final exams, Donny vanished. He simply didn't come home one afternoon, and no one at school remembered seeing him.” (8). Donny ,whose only concern is himself, doesn’t think that his disappearance will impact others in any way. The word “vanished” is very key showing that it was as if he disappeared off the face of the earth. As a result, Donny being indifferent,which is the final component of his downfall, shows his inability to care about others and only focus on
